Ovie S. Sumpter son of the late Elzilene Barton Sumpter and Clarence Sumpter was born in Buick, Missouri, on September 3, 1934. He departed this life at Advanced Healthcare Medical Center in Ellington, Missouri, on June 19, 2010, having attained the age of 75 years, nine months and 16 days.
On June 8, 1954 in St. Louis, Ovie was united in marriage to Anna B. Volner and to this union five children were born. His hobbies included hunting, gardening and spending time with his family and friends.
Ovie was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Gregory Sumpter, five brothers, Ogie, Emett, Thedford, Lexie and James Sumpter and one sister, Freda Stalling.
Ovie is survived by his wife, Anna Sumpter of Bunker, two sons, Wyman Sumpter and wife Tina of Cahokia, IL, James Sumpter of Bunker, two daughters, Sherry Roy and husband, John of Dupo, IL, Barbara Werner of Dupo, IL, one brother, Columbus Sumpter and wife Eula of Centerville, two sisters, Retha Orick and husband Tub of Ironton, Evia Campbell of St. Charles, MO, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Ovie will be deeply missed by a host of relatives and many friends who will mourn his passing.
